Newcomers: Register for health insurance online!

Are you a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident and are settling in Québec? In most cases, you can register for health insurance online, whether you are a single person, a couple or a whole family!

1

Gather the documents required for your situation

Depending on your situation, some of the following documents must be attached to your application.

  • Proof of Canadian citizenship (valid Canadian passport, birth certificate, copy of an act of birth or certificate of Canadian citizenship)
  • Permanent Resident Card or Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR)
  • Québec Selection Certificate (CSQ)
  • Certificate of coverage under your country’s social security plan, if you are from a country that has signed a social security agreement with Québec. You must get your certificate before you leave for Québec.

2

Note the following information before you register

Reference number for the registration of a family
When you have completed the registration of the first member of your family, you will receive an acknowledgement of receipt by email which will contain a reference number. This number will be required for the registration of other family members to facilitate processing.

Registration of a child
To register your child, you must use the Child application form. This form must be completed by the main applicant, either the parent or the legal guardian of the child.

Processing time
You will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your application and informing you of the processing time. During peak periods, processing times may be longer.

3

Apply online

You must be in Québec to register. You must provide your mailing address in Québec so that we can send you your letter of eligibility and, subsequently, your Health Insurance Card.

Each family member must complete their own application form.
