Supplemental coverage by private insurers

Coverage offered by certain private plans to persons age 65 or over. This type of coverage does not replace the basic coverage, but only supplements it. For instance, supplemental coverage may apply to drugs not on the List of Medications or the portion of a cost that would otherwise not be reimbursed by RAMQ. Private insurers offering supplemental coverage are referred to as the second payer.
