Visual Devices – Who is Eligible?
The Visual Devices Program is intended for persons insured under the Health Insurance Plan with a visual impairment such that they are permanently unable to read, write, move around in an unfamiliar environment, or carry out activities in keeping with their lifestyle or social roles.
Visual impairment is defined, for each eye, after correction using ophtamic lenses—but not special optical systems or additions of more than four dioptres—as follows:
- a visual acuity of less than 6/21;
- a visual acuity equal to or less than 6/18 for persons who suffer from a degenerative visual problem, visual impairment, physical deficiency (motor, hearing or speech), or an intellectual disability;
- a continuous visual field of less than 60°, including the central fixation point measured horizontally or vertically;
- complete hemianopia.
