A New Spouse

Persons insured by the Health Insurance Plan who have a new spouse must call the Régie or visit an office of the Régie during office hours to report a change in civil status.

Two persons (of the same sex or opposite sex) are considered spouses if they:

  • are married or have entered into a civil union;
  • have been living together for at least 12 months;
  • are living together and have had or adopted a child together.

Having a new spouse may also affect your prescription drug insurance coverage. It is therefore important to make sure you're covered by the right plan.

If your new situation involves a move for you or your children, refer to the section on moving for information about changes of address.
