Dependant

A dependant is a person:

  • under age 18;
  • domiciled with a permanent or temporary resident of Québec who exercises parental authority over him/her.

Someone in any of the 3 situations described below may also be considered a dependant if the person who has custody of him/her fulfills either of the following conditions:

  • the person is registered for the Health Insurance Plan as being in Québec for a temporary stay;
  • the person is a permanent resident of Québec and leaves Québec temporarily.

Situation 1:

  • The person does not have a spouse.
  • The person is age 25 or under.
  • The person is a full-time student at an educational institution.
  • The person is domiciled with a permanent or temporary resident of Québec who would exercise parental authority if the person were a minor.

Situation 2:

  • The person does not have a spouse.
  • The person is of full age.
  • The person is domiciled with a permanent or temporary resident of Québec who would exercise parental authority if the person were a minor.
  • The person suffers from a functional impairment provided for in the Act respecting prescription drug insuranceThis link will open in a new window., and the impairment began before age 18.
  • The person does not receive benefits under a financial assistance program.
